Aden faces severe gas shortage and black market surge
Aden is experiencing a total halt in gas supplies for both domestic cylinders and official vehicle refueling stations. This shortage has triggered a severe supply crisis, with accusations that citizen allocations are being diverted to the commercial sector, specifically to restaurants and factories.
As official stations close, the black market has seen a massive surge in prices, with the cost of 20 liters reportedly jumping to 20,000 Yemeni riyals. There are growing concerns regarding the disappearance of 59 gas tankers that were intended to supply the governorates of Taiz, Al Hudaydah, and Al Mukha, but have failed to reach their destinations.
Local residents and observers are calling for urgent investigations into the diversion of supplies and the whereabouts of the missing tankers to address the economic strain on the population.
