Aden hosts workshops on transitional justice and women's protection

In Aden, several high-level workshops and dialogues have been launched to address human rights, transitional justice, and the protection of women in Yemen.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is organizing a four-day workshop focused on the concepts and mechanisms of transitional justice. The event involves representatives from civil society, the Ministry of Legal Affairs, and judicial bodies. Participants aim to discuss frameworks for victim redress, accountability, and social reconciliation to support peacebuilding efforts. The Minister of Legal Affairs, Judge Ishraq al-Maqtari, emphasized that transitional justice is a national necessity and a prerequisite for a comprehensive peace based on the rule of law.

Simultaneously, initiatives supported by the European Union and Oxfam are addressing gender-based violence and women's protection. Discussions led by the PASS Foundation and the ‘Abad’ advocacy bloc focus on strengthening institutional responses to violence and improving legal protections for women. These sessions aim to translate recommendations into actionable national policies, including the development of a national strategy for women and the establishment of a fund for women's development.
