Aden workshop addresses child recruitment in Yemen conflicts
The Mion Organization for Human Rights held a workshop and photography exhibition in Aden to address the recruitment and use of children in armed conflicts in Yemen. The event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Human Rights and included participation from government officials, United Nations representatives, and international and local organizations.
Minister of Human Rights Mishdal Mohammed Omar stated that child recruitment is one of the most serious violations facing children in Yemen, noting that it deprives them of education, safety, and growth. He emphasized that such actions may constitute war crimes under international law and highlighted the long-term need for psychological and social rehabilitation for affected children.
Legal Affairs Minister Ishraq Al-Maqtari also spoke, noting that many children in Yemen are forced to trade education for weapons or combat to secure a livelihood. The workshop aimed to draw international attention to these increasing violations and discuss mechanisms for prevention, advocacy, and accountability.
