Adeniyi Adeyemi accused of using forged documents to run fake government agency
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has released an interim report regarding Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The commission stated that Adeyemi forged documents to present himself as a government official, created additional agencies, and opened bank accounts using forged instruments.
ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu noted that weak institutional controls and loopholes in Nigeria’s public sector allowed Adeyemi to manipulate government processes and gain official legitimacy. Aliyu emphasized that the ability of individuals to exploit these weaknesses poses a threat to the country’s efforts to attract foreign direct investment.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticized the investigation, suggesting it may focus too heavily on Adeyemi while avoiding deeper questions regarding the institutional failures and powerful interests that enabled the infiltration of the government architecture.
