Nigeria political landscape shifts ahead of 2027 elections

Political activities across several Nigerian states are intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections. In Ogun State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, expressed confidence in a wide victory, emphasizing the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary to ensure transparency to prevent post-election litigation.

In Oyo State, African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Adegboyega Adegoke is asserting his authenticity despite legal challenges and a parallel primary. He has proposed a Moniya-to-Saki rail link to boost agricultural logistics. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is mobilizing youth supporters through zonal engagements in Saki and Ogbomoso.

In Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji held town hall meetings to consult on the 2027 budget, while a severe rainstorm in Ilupeju Ekiti resulted in one death and significant property damage. In Kwara State, the Dahiri Omo Ilorin group has voiced support for Speaker Salihu Yakubu Danladi’s gubernatorial ambitions. Additionally, the ADC National Youth Leader, Sultan Bello, has resigned from the party.
