Adgestone Campsite seeks year-round operation permit

John Perez of Nationwide Lodges has submitted a planning proposal to allow Adgestone Campsite, located northwest of Sandown on the Isle of Wight, to operate year-round. The application seeks to remove two conditions from a 2002 planning consent, which would enable camping activities throughout the full 12 months of the year.

Following a four-year closure under previous ownership, the site has undergone significant investment to be recommissioned. The proposal notes that changing climate patterns have extended periods of suitable camping weather, leading to increased demand from customers wishing to store caravans and campers on-site. If approved, the year-round operation could support approximately seven full-time staff members and various maintenance contractors, potentially generating increased revenue for the Island.

The application also includes requests to rearrange existing pitches and alter access arrangements. Specifically, it proposes allowing access through the site’s lower gateway to alleviate traffic issues on the narrow, single-track Lower Road in Adgestone. The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation period is scheduled to close on October 23, with a decision expected by December 22, 2026.
