ADHD Linked to ENT Issues in Children and Overlooked in Adults' Workplaces

Medical specialists highlighted that ear‑nose‑throat (ENT) problems such as chronic nasal obstruction, enlarged tonsils, adenoids and sleep‑related breathing disorders can impair attention, memory and learning in children with attention‑deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The Hospital Pequeno Príncipe in Brazil organized an open lecture titled “ENT in Pediatric Attention Deficit: What to Investigate?” featuring otolaryngologists, neurologists and speech therapists to discuss these connections and promote multidisciplinary diagnosis.

Separately, psychologists emphasized that ADHD persists into adulthood, often presenting as mental restlessness, severe procrastination, disorganization and impulsivity rather than overt hyperactivity. Adults may be mischaracterized as inattentive or lazy, especially in workplace settings. Experts recommend simple accommodations such as flexible schedules, written instructions, reduced sensory distractions and clear communication to support neurodivergent employees and improve productivity.
