ADHD management requires individualized support and sensitive communication

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects children through symptoms such as inattention, motor hyperactivity, or impulsivity. These neurodevelopmental challenges can impact academic performance, social relationships, and organizational skills.

Psychiatrist Alexandre Jeudy warns that common phrases used by parents and teachers—such as ‘make an effort to stay focused’ or ‘stop moving’—can be harmful. While often intended without malice, the repetition of these remarks can damage a child's self-esteem, foster feelings of guilt or anger, and degrade the relationship between the student and the educational system.

Neuropediatrician Sonia de Pedro emphasizes that ADHD affects not only the patient but also their entire environment. Because the disorder manifests differently in every child—ranging from attentional issues to emotional or social difficulties—treatment must be individualized. Experts recommend periodic re-evaluations to adapt support and therapies to the specific evolving needs of the child and their family.
