Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticizes India's GDP growth claims

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has criticized the Indian government's claims of 7.8 percent GDP growth for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, labeling the statistics as misleading.

Chowdhury argued that while the government promotes economic growth, the common citizen is facing empty pockets due to skyrocketing inflation. He suggested that wealth is only increasing for a select few and cautioned against celebrating a single quarterly report before the annual data is released.

Additionally, Chowdhury addressed allegations regarding voter lists, claiming that approximately 130 million names have been removed from the draft. He suggested that if these discrepancies are accurate, it could call the legitimacy of previous elections into question. He also commented on student protests and the role of the Supreme Court in intervening in legal matters that the government had previously been reluctant to resolve.
