Adib Andhar Andan wins Sarawak’s first SUKMA keirin gold
Sarawak cyclist Adib Andhar Andan secured a historic gold medal in the men’s keirin event at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) held at the National Velodrome in Nilai. His victory marks the first time a rider from Sarawak has won the keirin discipline at the games, ending a 40-year wait for the state in this specific event.
Adib, who transitioned to serious track cycling only last year, defeated Johor’s Ahmad Danial Haiqal Ahmad Rifaiee, who took silver, and Negeri Sembilan’s Muhammad Luqman Haqim Ali Badrun, who earned bronze. The 20-year-old rider dedicated his achievement to his mother, Rohayu Elhi, as a birthday gift.
This win follows Adib’s previous experience at the 2024 SUKMA in Sarawak, where he competed in road cycling but did not secure a medal. He noted that his recent participation in international competitions, including the World Cup and Asian Track Cycling Championships, helped build the confidence necessary for this victory.
