Adidas lays off nearly half of staff at Gurugram tech hub

Adidas has announced significant workforce reductions at its technology hub in Gurugram, India. The layoffs are expected to affect nearly half of the facility's approximately 700 employees, with reports suggesting between 300 and 350 roles will be eliminated.

The affected staff includes software engineers, data scientists, and data engineers who were hired to support Adidas products since the hub opened in 2021. Some employees received exit letters immediately upon the announcement, while others are scheduled to remain until December 15 to facilitate the handover of responsibilities.

In a statement, Adidas described the move as a ‘difficult decision’ intended to align its operating model with evolving business needs. The company stated the changes aim to ‘simplify parts of our organization, strengthen critical capabilities, and position adidas for long-term success.’ Despite the cuts, Adidas emphasized that India remains a strategically important market and that the technology hub continues to play a critical role in its operations.
