Adidas releases new Dirndl ahead of Oktoberfest

Adidas has released its second Adidas Originals Dirndl ahead of the 2026 Oktoberfest in Munich. The garment, priced at 400 euros, is available in black and vermilion red and is constructed from polyamide and polyester. The manufacturer describes the design as a blend of “classic festive flair with modern style” and a “homage to sport, style, and culture.”

The release has drawn mixed reactions from the public, with social media users debating its aesthetic. Textile historian Dr. Michaela Breil of the State Textile and Industrial Museum Augsburg notes that while the garment meets the formal criteria of a dirndl—consisting of a tight bodice, a wide skirt, and an apron—it does not qualify as traditional “Tracht” because it lacks specific regional and cultural attribution. Dr. Breil characterized the product as “pure fashion” and a marketing move, though she noted the design is visually successful, describing it as “sporty, youthful, and yet traditional.”
