Oktoberfest 2026: Consumer warnings and Adidas Dirndl debate

As the 191st Oktoberfest approaches in Munich, authorities and brands are making headlines. The Verbraucherzentrale Bayern has issued warnings regarding fraudulent online shops. These fake retailers often use social media advertising to lure customers with deep discounts on traditional Dirndls and Lederhosen. Many of these shops pose as authentic Bavarian manufacturers but are actually based in China, leading to undelivered goods or low-quality products that are expensive to return.

In contrast to these scams, Adidas has released a controversial “Adidas Originals Dirndl” for 2026, priced at 400 Euros. The design, featuring the brand's signature three stripes, has divided public opinion online. A pop-up store for the garment is expected at Munich Airport.

Local festivities are also underway, including the Frankfurt Oktoberfest, which was officially opened by Minister President Boris Rhein. Meanwhile, the Bayerischer Rundfunk has announced extensive live coverage of the Munich event, including traditional broadcasts like “O'zapft is!” and the parade of traditional costumes.
