Adidas Trionda 2026 World Cup Ball Uses Integrated 500 Hz Sensor

The official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, named TRIONDA, incorporates a high‑fidelity inertial measurement unit that records movement data at 500 Hz. The sensor is mounted laterally within one of the ball’s four large panels and balanced by counterweights in the remaining panels, preserving flight stability and weight distribution.

Data from the sensor are transmitted in real time to the stadium’s VAR system, where they are combined with optical tracking information from camera arrays. This integration enables officials to pinpoint the exact moment of ball‑player contact, improving the accuracy of off‑side, hand‑ball and other close‑call decisions. The ball’s design features red, green and blue elements representing Mexico, Canada and the United States, the three host nations.

Developed by Adidas in collaboration with tracking specialist Kinexon, the ball also includes deeper seams and strategically placed lines to reduce flutter. It is priced at about €160 for the official match version, although the sensor‑enabled functionality is limited to stadiums equipped with the necessary VAR infrastructure.
