Adidome parents urge government to block adult content on SHS tablets
Parents in the Adidome area of the Central Tongu District in the Volta Region are calling on the government to reconfigure digital tablets issued to Senior High School (SHS) students. The parents reported that some students are using the devices to access pornography, which they claim encourages negative behavior and distracts from academic studies.
The concerns were raised during a community engagement session organized by the Volta Regional Directorate of the Department of Gender, in partnership with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. The session was supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Global Affairs Canada as part of the Gender Responsive Empowerment and Adolescent Transformative (GREAT) Model Households initiative.
The GREAT program aims to create safe home environments for adolescents, particularly girls. During the forum, participants discussed topics including adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights, gender socialization, and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. District Chief Executive Addison Mornyuie encouraged parents to remain committed to their duty of caring for their children.
