Adif and Renfe conduct emergency train fire drill in Das Maceiras Tunnel

Adif and Renfe conducted an emergency drill in the Das Maceiras Tunnel, located on the Vigo-Redondela section of the Atlantic Axis, during the early hours of Friday. The exercise simulated a technical failure leading to a fire on a passenger train carrying approximately 90 travelers.

In the simulation, the train stopped 400 meters from the northern entrance. After the onboard crew was unable to extinguish the fire, external assistance was requested. Firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze and evacuate 10 simulated injured persons via stretchers. Other passengers, including individuals with reduced mobility, were evacuated through an evacuation gallery to the adjacent tube and then to the nearest tunnel exit.

The drill aimed to evaluate emergency plans, operational management, and coordination protocols between railway services, public administrations, and security forces.
