Audiencia Nacional admits appeal against Ceuta port migrant center
The Audiencia Nacional has admitted a legal challenge filed by the Sindicato Unificado de Policía (SUP) regarding the installation of a migrant reception center at the port of Ceuta. The court has ordered the Ministry of Transport to submit all relevant administrative files within a non-extendable 20-day deadline to facilitate the judicial review.
The SUP’s appeal follows a previous decision by the court to deny an urgent injunction that would have suspended the camp's installation. The union argues that the location is unsuitable, noting that the Ceuta Port Authority had initially rejected the site due to its incompatibility with standard port operations. While Puertos del Estado later issued a favorable report based on general interest, it also acknowledged that the facility could pose risks to port infrastructure, critical installations, and operational safety.
In the interim, the Spanish government has proceeded with its relocation plan, moving 1,700 migrants from the Benítez and El Trampolino beaches to the new temporary port facility.
