Adif re-energizes Madrid-Zaragoza line for railway highway works

Adif is progressively re-energizing the catenary on the conventional Madrid-Zaragoza line as part of testing phases for railway highway (AF) adaptation works. The restoration of the 3.3 kilovolt tension is being carried out throughout September to verify the functionality of electrification facilities following infrastructure modifications.

The adaptation project involves an investment of over 330 million euros and includes works on 40 overpasses and 26 tunnels across the provinces of Madrid, Guadalajara, Soria, and Zaragoza. Specific improvements include expanding tunnel sections, lowering platforms, and renewing sleepers, rails, and ballast.

Additionally, Adif is extending tracks to 750 meters at several stations, including Arcos de Jalón, Sigüenza, Humanes de Mohernando, Jadraque, Paracuellos-Sabiñán, Morés, and Épila. The project also includes the implementation of the Banalized Automatic Block (BAB) system between Guadalajara and Calatayud to improve train distance management and circulation.
