Adinno Phizo, President of Naga National Council, passes away
Adinno Phizo, the president of the Naga National Council (NNC), has passed away at a private hospital in Kohima following a brief illness. She was 93 or 94 years old.
As the eldest daughter of Angami Zapu Phizo, the leader of the Naga nationalist movement, Adinno assumed leadership of the NNC in 1990 following her father's death. She was formally elected president in May 1990 and remained a steadfast advocate for the Naga right to self-determination and sovereign recognition, upholding the mandate of the 1951 Naga Plebiscite.
The NNC and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) issued a notification expressing deep condolences, describing her as a leader who served the Naga national struggle with dignity and integrity. The NNC/FGN has called upon the Naga people to observe a period of mourning with peace, dignity, and unity. Funeral arrangements are expected to be finalized soon, with services tentatively scheduled for October 10.
