Aditi Moreshwar Choukande, 17, Dies by Suicide After Vidarbha Cricket Team Rejection

Seventeen‑year‑old aspiring cricketer Aditi Moreshwar Choukande, a native of Akola, was found dead by hanging at her residence in Nagpur on 31 July 2026. Police said a handwritten note at the scene read, “My selection did not happen,” indicating she was distressed after failing to secure a place in the recent Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) trials.

Aditi had been living in Nagpur with her mother for two years while training at the Nagpur Cricket Academy. Her brother is also a cricketer. Bajaj Nagar police registered an accidental death case and are conducting a post‑mortem and full investigation into the circumstances of her death.
