Aditya Birla Capital enters India's gold loan market
Aditya Birla Capital has announced its entry into the gold loan market, marking a strategic expansion of its secured lending portfolio. The company plans a phased rollout, aiming to open 200 to 300 dedicated gold loan branches by March 2027. Over the next three years, the firm intends to establish a network of approximately 1,000 branches across India to build a pan-India franchise.
The move comes as the Indian gold loan sector experiences rapid growth, with outstanding loans against gold jewelry reaching approximately Rs 3.3 lakh crore by May 2026. The segment saw nearly 50% growth in FY26, making it one of the fastest-growing areas in retail lending.
Aditya Birla Capital joins other major Indian conglomerates, such as Tata Capital and Godrej Capital, which have also entered the market. While Aditya Birla is building its presence through new branches, Tata Capital and Godrej Capital have utilized acquisitions, such as Tata Capital’s stake in Yogloans and Godrej Capital’s acquisition of Kanakadurga Finance’s gold loan business, to expand their footprints.
