Adjaime Ramos de Souza appointed chief secretary of Casa Civil
Governor Otaviano Pivetta has appointed Adjaime Ramos de Souza as the new chief secretary of the Casa Civil. Ramos de Souza, who previously served as deputy secretary and briefly held the position for 15 days in April, succeeds Mauro Carvalho, who resigned from the post on Tuesday.
The leadership change occurs amid significant political pressure following the Federal Police’s ‘Operação Heritage’. This investigation targets potential irregularities in a R$ 308 million agreement between the state and the telecommunications company Oi.
The operation has triggered several high-profile departures within the administration. State Attorney General Francisco Lopes resigned on Friday, and Fábio Garcia announced his withdrawal from the candidacy for Pivetta’s vice-governor, stating he intends to seek reelection for the Chamber of Deputies instead. Several figures, including Mauro Carvalho, former governor Mauro Mendes, and Fábio Garcia, are among those under investigation.
