ADME CEO Manousakis Urges Full Electrification of Greek Economy

Manos Manousakis, president and chief executive of Greece’s power grid operator ADME, said that fully electrifying the Greek economy serves the national interest. He highlighted that Greece has already reached its 2030 renewable‑energy targets, with 19 GW of installed capacity and renewables accounting for about 55 % of the power mix. An additional 13 GW of projects are under construction after receiving connection contracts.

ADME operates 530 MW of storage units and aims to reach 1 GW by year‑end, with plans to award connection terms for roughly 400 MW of new battery capacity and 1.6 GW of autonomous storage. Manousakis stressed that electrifying key sectors such as heating and transport will reduce Greece’s reliance on energy imports, which currently supply about 77 % of total demand, and strengthen the country’s export position in electricity. He also pointed to ongoing investments in interconnections – linking islands, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the North Aegean and a second link to Italy – as high‑value projects that lower generation costs, improve energy security and support European market integration.
