ADMIE advances Dodecanese electrical interconnection project

ADMIE, the Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator, is accelerating major electrical interconnection projects. Ioannis Margaris, Vice President of ADMIE, announced at the Athens Investment Forum that a contract for the cable section of the Dodecanese interconnection, valued at 1.4 billion euros, is expected to be signed in the coming days. This project will connect Corinth to Kos, aiming to reduce the islands' dependence on local power generation.

Additionally, ADMIE is moving forward with a 2 billion euro framework agreement for subsea electrical cables for high-voltage interconnections in the Dodecanese and the North Aegean. The operator is also evaluating bids for 11 substations required for these Aegean islands.

Regarding international projects, the second interconnection between Greece and Italy with the Italian operator Terna is progressing. Environmental impact studies are expected to be submitted in the coming weeks, with tenders for subsea cables and converter stations planned to begin in the summer of 2027. These investments are supported by a recent 1 billion euro capital increase intended to bolster the operator's investment program and enhance grid resilience against the rising demands of data centers and energy storage.
