Regional updates: Landslides in Arequipa and police corruption in Córdoba

In Peru, continuous landslides on the Panamericana Sur highway in Arequipa have blocked the Ocoña–Ático route for five days. The blockage has stranded dozens of passengers and nearly 150 heavy vehicles across two sections. Authorities from the Arequipa Regional Government and Provías Nacional are working to clear mud and rocks, with hopes of opening a single lane if weather permits.

Simultaneously, the Arequipa Regional Government faces scrutiny. A regional councilor has threatened to report the Office of Territorial Conditioning to the Public Ministry due to a lack of transparency regarding land sanitation. Additionally, the regional government allowed 11 control reports from the Comptroller General to expire, preventing disciplinary action against officials involved in projects with alleged economic damages totaling millions of soles.

In Argentina, the Córdoba Police reported that corruption is the leading cause of disciplinary sanctions, with 484 officers dismissed or removed this year. Approximately 700 other officers remain under investigation or suspended.

In Ecuador, road recovery works are progressing on Los Nogales Street in Riobamba, involving sewage upgrades and repaving to improve local mobility.
