Admiral Gwyn Jenkins warns of Russian miscalculation in Baltics

British Navy Admiral Gwyn Jenkins has expressed concern regarding potential Russian miscalculations in the Baltic region. During a recent visit to Lithuania and other Baltic nations, Jenkins emphasized the importance of readiness without inciting panic or overstating Russian capabilities.

Jenkins noted that while Russia is currently suffering significant losses in Ukraine and may lack the capacity to trigger NATO Article 5, there remains a risk of “unprofessional behavior” or “something stupid” occurring. He warned that Russia continues to look for weaknesses among NATO members and that such miscalculations could escalate tensions in the Baltic and North Seas.

To address these risks, the United Kingdom is continuing to develop the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), a ten-nation coalition designed to accelerate decision-making processes in the event of a potential Russian attack.
