Adán Augusto López defends Andy López Beltrán amid business allegations
Senator Adán Augusto López Hernández has publicly defended Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, against allegations of involvement in irregular business dealings and fuel smuggling networks. López Hernández described the accusations as a ‘brutal media campaign’ and stated he would ‘put his hands in the fire’ for López Beltrán, whom he characterized as an honest and upright person he has known since childhood.
The defense comes amid reports, including from The New York Times, suggesting U.S. agencies are investigating potential links between López Beltrán and fuel smuggling operations. When questioned about the revocation of López Beltrán’s U.S. visa, the senator minimized the issue, calling it a ‘sovereign decision’ of another country rather than a criminal matter.
Additionally, investigations by Mexicanos Contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad (MCCI) have highlighted connections between businessman Amílcar Olán and companies that received betting authorizations from the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) during López Hernández’s tenure. These reports link Olán’s associates to companies such as Superjuegos Robin and Luxury de México, which received expanded online betting permissions.
