ADN Madeira demands transparency over Funchal tourist tax increase
The political party ADN Madeira is demanding full transparency regarding a proposal to double the tourist tax in Funchal. The tax would increase from 2 to 4 euros per person per night.
Following a unanimous approval by the Municipal Chamber, the proposal will undergo a 30-day public discussion period, with the aim of implementation in January 2027. ADN Madeira has called for the release of the complete economic and financial study supporting this increase, particularly as official indicators suggest a loss of occupancy and a slowdown in key regional tourism segments.
Party representative Miguel Pita emphasized that tourism is a vital pillar of the Madeiran economy and should be managed with informed data rather than slogans.
