Adnan Yazıcı publishes book on Harşit Defense during WWI
History teacher and educator Adnan Yazıcı has published a book documenting the Harşit Defense, a struggle against Russian occupation during World War I. Based on five years of academic research, the work utilizes approximately 500 archival documents, including military correspondence, daily reports, and unit activities.
Yazıcı conducted his research through a master's thesis at Giresun University under the supervision of Professor Sezai Balcı. The study examines the conflict between 1916 and 1918 along the Giresun and Gümüşhane lines, where Turkish forces successfully prevented Russian troops from crossing the Harşit Valley line to the west.
The book also details the humanitarian impact of the war on local populations, including migration, famine, and scarcity. It includes maps, sketches, and identifies 192 martyrs through official records, though Yazıcı notes the actual number is likely higher.
