ADOBAD urges President Abinader to review gambling law

The Association of Dominican Gambling Operators (ADOBAD) has sent a letter to President Luis Abinader requesting his intervention regarding the proposed General Gambling Law. The association is calling for a deep review of the initiative before it reaches the Senate.

ADOBAD warns that certain provisions in the current draft could jeopardize thousands of jobs and create investment insecurity. They specifically highlight concerns regarding the massive expansion of electronic and virtual games through horse racing agencies. Additionally, the group expressed concern over more than 29,000 licenses approved by the National Horse Racing Commission, noting that a proliferation of these games could increase gambling addiction risks, complicate oversight, and expose minors to gambling.

While ADOBAD supports the creation of a General Gambling Law, they argue the regulation must establish clear rules, strengthen state supervision, and protect long-term investments made by formal sector operators. The organization has offered to present specific observations and proposals to the President to help ensure the legislation promotes transparency, legal security, and social protection.
