Adobe updates Photoshop with new AI tools and light adjustments

Adobe has announced significant updates to Photoshop and Camera RAW, heavily integrating artificial intelligence powered by the Firefly Image 5 model.

A central feature is the new “AI Assisted Editor” (currently in Beta), which provides a unified interface for natural language commands. This allows users to perform complex edits, such as changing clothing or opening closed eyes, through text prompts. The “Instruct Edit with Masks” feature uses the model's contextual understanding to automatically mask relevant areas, protecting the rest of the image.

New creative tools include “Markup,” which enables users to draw directly on images—using arrows, shapes, or sketches—to guide AI modifications. Additionally, Photoshop now includes a non-destructive “Light” adjustment layer, bringing professional exposure, contrast, and shadow controls previously found in Camera RAW directly into the Photoshop workflow.

Camera RAW has also been updated to version 18.6, introducing a “Glow” (Schein) function for style and parameter control, as well as enhanced generative fill capabilities for cropping tasks.
