Adobe survey reveals 82% of employees experience Sunday anxiety
A 2025 Adobe survey of 1,004 full-time employees in the United States indicates that 82% of respondents experience anxiety regarding the start of the work week. This phenomenon, often described as anticipated Monday stress, frequently manifests as sleep disturbances for 42% of those surveyed and physical symptoms—such as tension, headaches, or exhaustion—for 35%.
Key drivers identified include burnout (55%) and high workloads (50%), alongside project deadlines and unhealthy work environments. The stress is particularly prevalent among individuals in demanding technology professions and those balancing both professional and family responsibilities.
Neurological research published in the Journal of Neuroscience supports these findings. Brain scans of 220 adults demonstrated measurable reactions in the amygdala and prefrontal cortex when responding to anticipated threats. Experts suggest that structured weekly planning and consistent daily routines may help mitigate these pressures by converting vague worries into manageable tasks.
