Adolfo Cambiaso appointed Argentine sports ambassador by Javier Milei

President Javier Milei has appointed renowned polo player Adolfo Cambiaso as an ad honorem Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador for the international promotion of Argentine sports. The appointment, formalized via Decree 1116/2026 and signed by Milei and Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, aims to leverage Cambiaso’s global prestige to strengthen Argentina’s international image, particularly through the sport of polo.

The role is purely protocolary and will not involve Cambiaso joining the permanent Foreign Service or receiving state remuneration. The government intends to use this position to promote Argentine products, services, and tourism, creating commercial opportunities and business contacts abroad.

During a ceremony at Palacio Libertad, where Cambiaso was also recognized as an illustrious citizen of Buenos Aires, President Milei praised the athlete’s career and noted Argentina’s dominance in the sport, stating that the country holds the top spot in world rankings with five world titles.
