Adonis Georgiadis addresses oncology care and health inspections

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has addressed two distinct issues regarding the national healthcare system. Following a meeting with a delegation from the Eleia branch of the Hellenic Cancer Society, the Minister provided guidance on establishing day-care hospitalization for oncology patients in the Eleia region. This initiative aims to reduce the burden on patients who currently must travel long distances for cancer treatments. The proposal includes a comprehensive dossier detailing travel times, distances, and potential funding options.

Separately, Georgiadis addressed the impact of the 2019 abolition of the Health Inspectors Body (SEYP), which was absorbed into the National Transparency Authority. The Minister acknowledged state responsibility regarding the inability to identify certain fraudulent actors, citing the loss of specialized oversight as a factor. He expressed openness to the re-establishment of a specialized body focused specifically on health inspections to improve regulatory effectiveness.
