Greece Health Minister inaugurates upgraded medical facilities in Northern Greece
Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis conducted a tour of Northern Greece to inaugurate several upgraded health facilities funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Key developments include the renovation of health centers in Dikais, Soufli, Serres, Strymone, and Nea Michaniona, as well as the expansion and modernization of the Emergency Department at Xanthi General Hospital.
In Xanthi, the new Emergency Department covers 1,100 square meters following a 3.2 million euro investment. Other regional upgrades include the Drass General Hospital, which has seen a 59.1% budget increase since 2019 and a rise in medical staff. Additionally, a new mental health day center was inaugurated in Drama.
While government officials highlighted these achievements as a successful utilization of EU funds to modernize public health, the KKE regional committee criticized the moves as pre-election impressions, arguing that the upgrades lack the necessary permanent medical personnel to meet population needs.
