Adriana Meza to lead Querétaro Congress amid legislative reforms
Adriana Meza Argaluza is set to assume the presidency of the Board of Directors of the Querétaro Congress on October 2, serving until April 1, 2027. Meza, representing the PRI, has stated she does not anticipate legislative paralysis despite the upcoming 2027 electoral process. She intends to meet with various parliamentary factions to establish a work plan, which will include analyzing the state budget.
Guillermo Vega Guerrero, coordinator of the PAN parliamentary group, expressed optimism regarding Meza’s leadership, suggesting her appointment could bring a “fresh air” to the legislature. Key pending items include a local judicial reform aimed at ensuring the quality of judges by 2028.
Additionally, the Commission of Administration and Justice has approved two significant social reforms. One measure aims to protect the privacy of minors in legal proceedings by prohibiting the disclosure of personal data or images, requiring only the use of initials. The second reform updates the Civil Code to regulate the custody and maintenance of pets during divorce proceedings, treating animals as “sentient beings” and allowing judges to determine care plans based on resources and availability.
