Adriatic fishing fleet begins biological ban for species replenishment

The Adriatic fishing fleet is entering a mandatory biological fishing ban, scheduled from August 16 to September 29. This period of suspended activity, covering the maritime compartments between San Benedetto del Tronto and Bari, aims to facilitate the replenishment of marine species. The ban specifically affects vessels authorized to use various types of trawl nets.

In anticipation of the closure, the wholesale fish market in San Benedetto del Tronto held its final auction on August 14. Significant prices were recorded for several species, including large squid at 21.13 euros per kilogram, large sole at 28.70 euros, and scampi at 42.60 euros per kilogram.

Simultaneously, local traditions are being celebrated in the Riviera region. In Cesenatico, the Cooperativa Casa del Pescatore is organizing the traditional ‘Rustida,’ a large-scale seafood grill featuring local specialties such as mussels, clams, and Adriatic fried fish. These events serve to promote the local fishing economy and culinary heritage during the Ferragosto holiday period.
