ADRION ministers meet in Venice to boost regional defense cooperation
Defense ministers from the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (ADRION) met in Venice to discuss strengthening regional security cooperation. The meeting, hosted by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto aboard the Amerigo Vespucci, included representatives from Albania, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, and Slovenia.
Discussions focused on addressing interconnected conventional, hybrid, and technological threats. Ministers emphasized the need for shared information, tools, and capabilities to transform their shared geography into a collective capacity for action. The group also addressed the Continental European Defence Initiative (CEDI), a proposal aimed at enhancing European defense coordination in a manner that complements NATO while maintaining transatlantic ties.
Key outcomes included a focus on maritime security, such as the ‘On-Call Maritime Force,’ and the importance of maintaining stability in the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Montenegro highlighted its ongoing military modernization and focus on maritime capabilities as a contribution to regional security.
