Adriatic-Ionian region advances sustainable mobility and cycle tourism

Regional initiatives are advancing sustainable mobility and tourism across the Adriatic-Ionian area. In Croatia, the CYROS (Adriatic Ionian Cycle Route for Sustainable Tourism) project has concluded. This joint Italian-Croatian initiative, valued at 2.75 million euros, focused on developing a cycling corridor to promote sustainable mobility. Key outcomes include an Action Plan for cycle tourism development, a new regulatory framework for cycling routes, and the installation of 18 service stations across locations such as Neretva, Dubrovnik, Korčula, and Mljet.

Simultaneously, the ADRIAMOVE project is working to address mobility challenges in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. The project aims to reduce dependence on private cars and mitigate environmental pressures in tourist regions by promoting electric mobility. Pilot activities include the testing of electric buses and city bike-sharing systems, such as the recent deployment of 11 electric bikes in Postojna, Slovenia.
