Adriatic ports see rising traffic volumes
Adriatic ports are experiencing significant growth, with traffic volumes increasingly approaching those of the Tyrrhenian ports. According to the latest Economic Outlook from Fedespedi, investments from terminal operators and shipping companies, alongside rising demand from Eastern European countries, are driving this trend.
In the first half of 2026, Adriatic ports handled 1.855 million TEUs, up from 1.718 million in the first half of 2025. In contrast, Tyrrhenian ports saw a decline, handling 2.084 million TEUs compared to 2.103 million in the previous year. Notable growth was recorded in Koper (+5.2%) and Rijeka (+35.7%), with the latter surpassing Trieste, which saw a 4.1% decrease.
On the Italian side, Adriatic ports such as Venice, Ravenna, and Ancona reported increases in traffic. Conversely, Tyrrhenian ports like Genoa and Savona experienced declines, though La Spezia and smaller ports like Civitavecchia showed growth.
