Adriatic Sea fishing ban extends to September 29

A fishing ban is currently in effect across the Adriatic Sea, stretching from San Benedetto del Tronto to Bari. The suspension of bottom trawling activities is scheduled to continue until September 29. Coldiretti Pesca Puglia has noted that the sector is under significant pressure due to high energy costs, climate change, and foreign competition, emphasizing that the ban must balance environmental sustainability with economic viability for the thousands of workers and businesses involved.

In addition to the regulatory ban, fishermen in the northern Marche region, specifically near Pesaro and Fano, are facing an emergency due to the presence of mucilage. These gelatinous masses, caused by microalgae and bacteria reacting to high water temperatures, are entangling fishing nets and making it impossible for small-scale fishers to operate, leading to further economic losses.
