Adrien Brody isolated in New York hotel for Broadway role

Actor Adrien Brody spent nearly five months in near-total isolation in a New York hotel room to prepare for his Broadway debut in ‘The Fear of 13’. The play is based on the true story of Nick Yarris, who spent 22 years on death row for a crime he did not commit.

In an interview with ‘Interview Magazine’, Brody explained that the sequestration was a deliberate choice to help him embody the profound isolation experienced by Yarris. He noted that while his experience was lonely, it only scratched the surface of the isolation his character endured.

Brody is known for extreme immersion in his roles, such as his preparation for the 2002 film ‘The Pianist’, where he moved to Europe and underwent significant weight loss. For the Broadway production, which concluded on June 28, Brody engaged in rehearsals lasting 11 hours a day, six days a week.
