Adult education programs expand in Colima and Sonora

Adult education institutes in the Mexican states of Colima and Sonora are reaffirming their commitment to providing free literacy, primary, and secondary education services to residents aged 15 and older.

In Colima, the Instituto Estatal de Educación para Adultos (IEEA), led by Guillermo Toscano Reyes under Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva, operates across ten municipalities. The program utilizes community centers and strategic alliances to offer literacy and basic education to help reduce illiteracy rates within the state.

In Sonora, the Instituto Sonorense de Educación para los Adultos (ISEA) provides free services through 72 community centers. Director María Engracia Carrazco Valenzuela noted that Sonora is among the top five entities in the country for completing literacy, primary, and secondary education cycles. The initiative aims to support social transformation by allowing citizens to certify their studies and pursue higher education.
