New wearable cooling technologies are emerging to combat extreme heat, focusing on advanced methods beyond traditional fan-based garments.
Shiftall has introduced the ‘ChillerX Pro’, a water-cooled wearable that utilizes a Peltier chiller system. Unlike standard fan-equipped clothing that relies on evaporative cooling from sweat, this device uses an electric pump to circulate chilled water through a sheet inside the garment. This method maintains a surface temperature of approximately 15 degrees Celsius even in ambient temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius, providing a sensation described as being immersed in a cold bath. The device weighs approximately 2.0 kilograms.
Another approach is seen in the ‘COOLER MASTER’, an air-cooling wearable featuring the ‘TorCosys’ (Torso Cooling System). This design uses a backpack-style compartment to hold ice packs, which cools the air drawn in by fans before it is directed toward the user's neck, back, and shoulders. This system can produce airflow up to 14 degrees Celsius cooler than the ambient temperature. The garment is designed for both industrial use and urban fashion, with components that can be removed for machine washing.
