Advancements in stereotactic radiotherapy show improved cancer outcomes
Recent clinical data and studies highlight advancements in stereotactic radiotherapy for treating cancer. In the treatment of large brain metastases following surgical removal, a Phase III randomized clinical trial indicates that fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery—delivered in three to five sessions—reduces the risk of cancer recurrence at the site compared to a single-session approach.
Additionally, Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), including technology such as the CyberKnife robotic system, is showing significant results for prostate cancer. An eight-year follow-up study found that 91.2% of patients treated with SBRT remained cancer-free, compared to 83.7% of those treated with traditional prostatectomy. SBRT is associated with a better quality of life, reporting fewer side effects such as urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction.
At the ASTRO 2026 conference, Accuray announced a collaboration with Samsung NeuroLogica to integrate advanced mobile axial tomography and 3D imaging systems into the CyberKnife platform.
