Advances in Alzheimer's detection and early diagnosis efforts
Health authorities and researchers are emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention regarding Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. In Mexico, the Secretaría de Salud held a symposium to promote the early recognition of symptoms, noting that an aging population is increasing the prevalence of these conditions. Officials stressed that timely diagnosis allows families to make informed decisions and highlighted the need for continuous support networks to prevent the isolation of both patients and caregivers.
In Spain, medical experts are reporting significant progress in diagnostic capabilities. Neurologist Pascual Sánchez-Juan, scientific director of Fundación CIEN, stated that researchers are close to being able to detect Alzheimer's risk up to a decade before clinical symptoms appear. This advancement is being driven by new tools such as blood-based biomarkers and artificial intelligence, which offer the potential to make diagnosis more accessible and democratized.
