Advances in metabolic medicine and diabetes management are shifting focus toward integrated health models. In Mexico, medical experts are moving away from viewing obesity solely as a weight issue, instead treating it as part of a broader complex of conditions including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. This has led to the emergence of the cardiovascular-reno-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, a classification system that evaluates how heart, kidney, and metabolic functions impact one another across five distinct stages.

In Spain, the Spanish Diabetes Society (SED) is highlighting the necessity of accessible therapeutic education to complement technological advancements. While new drugs, glucose monitors, and smart insulin delivery systems are improving quality of life, experts warn that these innovations cannot reach their full potential without equitable access to patient education. The SED recently held its first conference on therapeutic education to advocate for a more equitable care model that ensures patients have the skills to use new technologies safely and effectively.
