AdvoKC Foundation urges President Tinubu to sign key legislative bills

The AdvoKC Foundation is urging President Bola Tinubu to sign two key pieces of legislation passed by the National Assembly to improve governance and education funding in Nigeria.

First, the foundation is calling for the assent of a Bill that would increase the Federal Government’s statutory contribution to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The proposed amendment seeks to raise the allocation from two per cent to five per cent of the Consolidated Revenue Fund. The harmonized Bill was transmitted to the Presidency on July 30, 2026, following the resolution of differences between the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Second, the foundation is pressing for the signing of the Federal Audit Service Bill. AdvoKC argues that delays in signing this legislation undermine the independence of the Auditor-General for the Federation, who currently lacks control over budget allocation, fund release, and personnel management. The foundation noted that international assessments from the United States Department of State and the International Monetary Fund have highlighted the need for stronger public financial management and transparency in Nigeria.
