Adıyaman earthquake: 4.2 magnitude tremor strikes Sincik
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Sincik district of Adıyaman, Turkey, on Tuesday evening, causing brief panic among residents. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 7 kilometers.
According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the main tremor was recorded at 21:43. This followed a smaller 3.7 magnitude earthquake centered in Sincik just three minutes earlier at 21:40. The vibrations were felt in surrounding provinces, including Malatya.
There were slight discrepancies between official reports. While AFAD recorded the 4.2 magnitude quake in Adıyaman, the Kandilli Observatory reported a 4.1 magnitude tremor centered near Salkonak in the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya at a depth of 5 kilometers. Experts note that minor differences in magnitude and epicenter location between agencies are common due to varying seismic station distributions and calculation methods.
