Adıyaman farmer prepares graves for himself and wife

Ali Karateke, an 85-year-old farmer living in the Sofyan village of Adıyaman's Gerger district, has used heavy machinery to dig graves for himself and his 78-year-old wife, Naciye Karateke, in the local cemetery.

Karateke stated that his decision was motivated by a desire to avoid becoming a burden to others. He noted that his nine children have moved to different cities for work, leaving the couple living alone. He expressed concern that if either were to pass away during the upcoming harsh winter, villagers might struggle to dig graves through snow and mud, especially since few young people remain in the village.

Local residents expressed respect for his foresight, with villagers noting that his actions were a thoughtful precaution to ensure no one else has to face difficulties during the winter months.
